i couldnt have had a better birthday than the one i just had. on the 24th of august i played the qualifying for the world open in kuwait and i made it into the main draw after winning the deciding match. as i was seeded in the top 16 of the qualy i was seeded to play one of the “weaker” players, which means players ranked between 70 and 100.. the draw was done and i had to play germany’s jens schoor, against whoom i ve played twice so far in some swiss local tournaments several years ago. we were drawn to play in the evening session, which means a lot of waiting. iin the waiting period i played some card games with my manager and answered all the nice wishes i got for my birthday..

i started really well into the first game, giving me a 3-0 lead, but then suddenly he started playing tigh and i wasnt feeling as well i was hoping to fell like. my movement wasnt there and i was pritty slow on court. i lost the opening game 11-7. in the 2nd i got better into the game, and he started to do some easy mistakes, and i won the game 11-7. in the 3rd i felt a bit better, he got tired so i won it 11-5. the 4th went very fast, giving me a 7-1 lead, then i twisted my ankle.. i didnt want to take an injury break, cos i could have disturbed me. i was lucky to win the game 11-8 giving me the ticket to kuwait..

i am going to the doctor tomorrow, but it doesnt feel as bad as it did 2 days ago. so i ll hope its not as bad, so that i can keep on training for the new season.

greetings

i had a great time again i KL, the food was great, hotel was superb everything was just perfect. my first round match was a good starting match, which i won rather comfortably in 3 games.

the 2nd match was rather close. i played pakistans waquar mehboob, a young skillful player. i lost the opening game 9-11. wasnt feeling very well that day, i comitted more mistakes than usual and wasnt feeling as fresh and quick as normally. but i managed to get back and win the second 11-8,. the 3rd game was similar to the first and i lost it 8-11. the 4th game was very crucial. at 8-8 i was lucky with 2 decisions given by the referees, as two 50-50 decision went my way–>11-8. in the 6th i started very well to get a 10-5 leed, but he managed to fight back to 10-10, where at a long really his string broke, giving me matchball.. then we had a brutal really which i finished with a shot behind my back to win the point and the match..

in the semis i faced malaysia’s ashraf.. it wasnt a nice game, but i knew it wasnt gonna be a nice one. he is the kind of player asking for a lot of lets, and slowing the pace down and using a lot of tricks to get some extra, cheap points.. i won in 4 after 65 min 11-3, 11-13, 11-7, 13-11.

in the final i played steven finitsis from australia.. we had a few practise games befor the tournament started, of which i havent won a single one of then.. but luckily it was only trainig,, that doesnt say anything about the reality. i should have won the final 3-0 but i let him come back into all the games. the opening game was easy, some tough reallies in the beginning to give me a comfortable lead. the 2nd game was similar, i was leading 10-5, afterwards i committed 5 mistakes in a row and finally i lost the game. the following 3 games were hardly fought, some spectacular reallies, good squash at a high pace. i was happy to win the game in 5 games after 60min 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7.

in all i had a great tournament and i am really looking forward to get back to KL the next time!! people here are so nice and friendly, i enjoyed every single second of my stay. ok well, my journey back home wasnt the best to be honest, as i had to wait 10h at dubai airport for the connecting flight. but still, this doesnt affect my positive images about the tournament.

greetings

its the first time for me here in dublin. the club is really nice, its an old fashioned, very prestigeous club. anyways i am not here for some sightseeing, i am here to get some good matches and hopefully some psa points.

in the qualifying matches i had to play 2 french men johan bouquet and yann perrin, which i beat rather comfortably 3-1, 3-0. in the main draw i had to play nr 3 seeded, alister walker from england. i ve never seen him playing before so i was really looking forward to have a great match. i started off really well in the first game, hit some nice winners and played at a very high pace.. i took the game 11-7. the 2nd one was really tight. we had some brutal reallies at around 8 all, but due to my hard training i managed to keep the pace up and won the 2nd 12-10. in the 3rd and 4th i had to pay for my high pace from the beginning, he looked through my game and won them 11-4. i knew i had to chance my game again in the 5th, what i was luckily able to do. i won the game finally with 11-8 and i achieved my biggest win with beating the nr. 16 from the world!

tomorrow i am playing daryl selby (Eng) in the quarters. i am feeling fresh, so i am ready for another big uppset..:)

greetings

But from now on, as its going towards the end of my school period ( final exames in june), i am trying to keep you informed as good as possible about the newest results and so on..

the upcoming weeks are gonna be really busy for me. on friday i am going to France, to play there 2 league matches for my team Valence. on sunday i am flying directly from paris to Dublin for the 2 1/2 star, in which i gotta go through the qualifying.. right after that tournament, there are gonna be the Europeans in Malmö, where the swiss team will try to repeap the great result from last year ( 6th place). after the Europeans i am off to Italy, where i am gonna play the 1 star tournament und two weeks later i am gonna play the Seegarten Open (1star).

After these tournaments my main focus is to pass my final exames in june. After that, my full focus is gonna be on squash. so i ll try to keep u informed as good as possible..

this season i changed my club form Karlsruher SC to Stuttgart cos my old club decided noz zo play in the first league anymore. We had to play against Koblenz. i wasnt sure who i was gonna play, cos they werent sure if theire no 1 LJ anjeman ( ned) can make it to be there after his performance at the worlds.

Then i saw him and i knew i was gonna play him. It was a good game, the beginning was really good, i mamaged to let him run and do him a lot of work. but a top player like he is ( no 15) doesnt affect this kind of pressure to much, so he won the 11-8. the 2nd wasnt my game at all, i didnt get into the game and then its to hard to get many points 3-11. the 3rd was similar to the first, good pressure reallies, but still he was a bit to strong today. 11-8. it was a good experience for me, but luckily my new teammates fought really hard and they were able to get a 2-2 in matches.

After beating Harford (eng) in the first round of qualifying i had to play an old junior friend campell grayson (nzl). it was a good start like in the last match for me, i took an early lead with 9-7 but then i commited a few errors and the game was lost 9-11. in the 2nd he was just to strong, i didnt manage to get into the game, i had no length and width, but also he played extremely well. in the 3rd i got into the game and i felt he had to pay for the first two hard games, so i felt fresher than him. i won the 3rd and 4th rather comfortably 11-6, 11-2. and the fift was really tough, i know i just had to koeep on going, but as it is in a qualy for such a big event i started to think a bit to much, so the 5th game was closer than it should have been..( 11-8)

here i am, i made it to where i wanted to get, to the main draw. befor the draw i said to my father, that i am gonna draw gaultier( fra), the no 2 seeded frenchman. as i said it, it happened…..:)

we had to play on the all glass court. I love playing on a showcourt, especially on this one, its the best ive ever played on. the game was closer than many people may have thought. i lost the first game 11-6, in the 2nd i was able to get 2 gamepoints, but then i lost it with 12-10 and the 3rd was 11-9. it was good for me to see, that there isnt to big of a difference, i could handle the pace quite well, then only difference to the top guys is just a little bit of everything, but there are no big gaps.

greetings
